This contemporary house with a flat and level garden has an interesting client brief. The clients wanted the gardens to form a 'haven' and place of peace and security for others to visit. Former military personnel, my instructions were to create paths and seating areas so that wheelchair users and those less mobile could wander through the garden in their own time. A long, oak pergola will create a walkway through scented roses and clematis. New, large trees will create privacy and shade. Two main seating areas provide benches along the way and a summerhouse - in a kitchen garden with raised beds - provides a quiet area out of the sun. The clients also have teenage children so a fire pit and 'chill-out' area will cater for their needs too. The planting plans run to thousands of plants with long swathes of evergreens to create winter scent and interest too. We are also planting hundreds of tulips, narcissi and wood anemones throughout.
