This contemporary house with a flat and level garden has an interesting client brief. The clients want the gardens to form a place of peace and security for others to visit. As former military personnel, my clients asked me to create paths and seating areas so that wheelchair users and those less mobile could wander through the garden. A long, oak pergola has created a walkway and will soon be covered with scented roses and clematis. Large trees have been planted to create privacy and shade. Two main seating areas provide benches along the way and a summerhouse - in a kitchen garden with raised beds - will provide a quiet area out of the sun. The clients also have teenage children so a fire pit and 'chill-out' area will cater for their needs too. The planting plans run to thousands of plants with long swathes of evergreens to create winter scent and interest too. We are also planting hundreds of tulips, narcissi and wood anemones throughout.
