It's important to keep existing trees and shrubs when they can bring so much to a new garden design so Louisa and her clients worked hard to incorporate the apple, pear and Oak tree. This garden belongs to artists and needs to accommodate hundreds of visitors each year for their open studio days. A large terrace with lots of seating was needed to fit the bill. Oak pergolas divide the garden, leading to a terrace at the very end, with vegetable patches behind pergolas too. A wide path takes you around the whole garden. By designing everything at a 45° angle, a long narrow garden is made to feel much wider. The clients said they would never use the small seating area at the very end, but they let Louisa persuade them (gently) and now use it all the time!
